Production Assassin #1

The number one concern I hear from clients is that they aren’t getting enough done during the day. “I am working 12 hours days, often 7 days a week; yet productivity isn’t what I want it to be.” So why is that? I blame it on the D word – DISTRACTIONS. The D word cannot be avoided. As a business owner, distractions are everywhere: customer calls, employee needs, meetings. These three distractions are a critical part of your success, and frankly, unavoidable. But there are other distractions that are not necessary and should be addressed. Today we will talk about the one that I consider the worst of all. Are you ready? EMAIL. Every single email ding is another distraction. I don’t mean to be captain obvious, and I’m sure you’ve heard this before. But did you digest it? Did you make any changes?

To be productive, it is critical that we learn to control the D word. As hard as it is to believe, emails do not require an immediate response. (ding ding!... pun intended) In fact, some of the most successful entrepreneurs refuse to open email until they have been in the office for two hours. They only open email twice a day: 10:00 am and 2:00pm. This simple change drastically increases production, reduces brain fog and best of all… the business doesn’t fall apart!

There isn’t a magic pill for increasing production, but a few small changes can make a big difference. Are you willing to put yourself on email restriction for a week? You might be pleasantly surprised by the amount of spare time you have to tackle the critical things on your to do list! What do you have to lose?
